Leytool Drill

These drills are pretty cool. Going through a little refurb of one of these was an absolute joy. video below of that.

I read a while ago that they were originally designed with wartime aircraft maintenance in mind and i can fully understand that.

They are short to fit between spars and in tight gaps within the airframe, and aluminium to avoid the possibility of sparks when working on fuelled aircraft.

There is not too much information available about these drills other than they were made between 1940 to the 80’s

The one i worked on is cast with the Patent 20987/44 dating it to 1940’s and making it one of the first to be produced.

There’s not much else to say about the drill, other than it works as it should, it’s a great simple design.

Here’s a few old advertising posters for the drill

The drill will be up on the Etsy store soon.

We are a small team of history enthusiasts who feel the history of things is important, and should be passed on as much as possible.

This blog will usually have an accompanying item for sale in the SHOP, but some will just be about curios, antiques, items and dates that fascinate me.
