Casdon Supercash

History Of Casdon

Thomas Cassidy started with a shed in his mother’s back garden in Blackpool in 1945. In his spare time he would make moulds for small toys. Cassidy wanted to start his own toy business and in 1946 he left his job as a toolmaker to pursue this dream. Joe Cassidy, Thomas’ brother joined the team not long after the business was up and running. The company became Cassidy Brothers. Thomas purchased a house himself where premises at the rear would house the new business. However as the company grew bigger premises were required. The company now still operates on the site of the original expansion. Thomas combined his surname with his wife (Bridget)’s maiden name (Donnelly) to become the household name we all know now as Casdon.

The Casdon Supercash Toy

The Supercash cash register was a replica of a modern electric cash register created in the 1960’s. It was a great way for children to learn about money and shopping to your means whilst having fun. The cash register had the new decimal system (introduced in 1965) incorporated into the buttons. It had a till roll and a mechanism that, when the release button pressed the cash draw opened. The item was compact and lightweight.
