Selection of Items

What’s Hot And What’s Not

Introduction

The antiques and vintage business can fluctuate month on month. It all depends on what’s hot and what’s not at a specific period in time. However there are some specific items that are always popular amongst collectors and can keep the market steady. At the time this blog is being conducted it is August of 2021 and the economy is recovering from a global pandemic. That in mind let’s take a look at some of the items we have available in our shop and online, and what trends they are currently following.

Industrial Items

Currently the industrial look is on trend but not all items of this nature are desirable. In our shop there is a large selection of vintage tools. These sell quickly to customers who want an authentic restoration to the carpentry project at hand. Typewriters are popular and appeal to a wide variety of people. Personally I do think it is therapeutic to hit the keys and hear the sound a type writer makes. One item that is currently on the decline with industrial items is the sewing machine. There was a time a few years ago when sewing machines (especially Singer) were very popular. However currently the demand in this area is more for the cast iron Singer parts to make industrial looking tables and the Singer seats.

Storage Solutions

The Corona Virus Pandemic over the last 18 months has meant national lockdowns. Being isolated in our homes for long periods of time, a lot of people were taking time to sort out their personal possessions. Remember the industrial look is on trend and what better way to store in style then vintage crates and suitcases. These items would create a great look in any room with the advantage of keeping your keepsakes safe and tided away. The cases are usually displayed stacked on top of each other neatly to create a focal point of the room. The crates more commonly roughly stacked to create a feature in a room.

Vintage Toys

Vintage toys is a lucrative market. Having the right items can bring customers in on a regular basis. Palitoy, Lego, Starwars and dinky cars are a small number of companies that appeal to collectors. We have a large client base for vintage board games and puzzles. We always keep a good stock in the shop and online. For vintage board games and puzzles Galt, Arrow and Waddington’s are good sellers but the year of manufacture can drive the demand down.

Antique and Vintage Camera’s

This is a very large area to cover in this blog. I am hoping in the future I can create a blog in more detail on this subject. We always have a huge demand for vintage cameras. These appeal to collectors, students and photographers. Anything from plate cameras, box camera to 35mm and early digital cameras these are all desirable to a wide audience. In the shop and online we always have a good selection available.
