Happy New Year to everyone from Wildcard Curiosities. Thank you all for your continued support. In this blog we will take a look at the year gone by and the new year ahead. I am sure we have all heard the saying out with old, in with the new. For Wildcard Curiosities this is more a metaphor for growing the business adapting to the ever changing retail industry and leaving some practices in the past.
What Happened In 2021?
We did not get off to a good start in 2021. The country was in lockdown due to a global pandemic. This had an affect on trading for the first 4 months. However online sales were still good, it allowed the Wildcard Curiosities team to organise our operations ready for the year.
By April 2021 retail was allowed to reopen, this meant a move from a smaller area we had at Freemen’s Common Antique Centre based in Leicester to a bigger area within the shop. It really was all go from here. Obtaining stock from auctions, house clearances and private sellers was a great relief. Having such fantastic stock to sell online and in the shop really was a breath of fresh air. Below is a very small selection of some of items sold last year. As you can see we have such an adverse array of items both antique and vintage, from tins, pottery, posters, lamps, silver plate and many more. We have seen this year some interesting household names within these categories, West German, Royal Doulton, Oxo, Cadbury, Frears, Picasso, Phil Monk, Mek-Elek, EDL Industrial, Herbert Terry, Birmingham and Sheffield Silver Plate.

What Can We Offer In 2022?
Currently in the shop we are remodelling our area to allow room to display and sell more physically bigger items. At present we only have a very small amount of furniture available for sale. Building a stand alone online shop has seen some challenges but this is something we hope can work with going forward. I am delighted to announce local restorer, and artist Gareth Norman Makes (can be found on social media and YouTube) is in partnership with us to provide some exciting new stock. As the year progresses we hope to establish new contacts for buying vintage and antique items. Welcoming new customers onboard and having a more face to face presence via fairs and markets. From everyone at Wildcard Curiosities we hope you enjoy the journey with us through this new year.
